Omnia aut nihil
Why "Y in the Well"?
The inspiration for my blog name is based on conversations I had with a helpful and passionate museum worker at the Museum of York. He told me the story of how the Coppergate/York Helm was found, nearly fully intact, in very mysterious circumstances at the bottom of a well.

I just love how the mystery of archaeology and the fortune of random circumstances can sometimes collide to be able to preserve knowledge after centuries of remaining hidden.

So then, "Why in the Well" reminds me that every piece of history and every artifact has its own particular story and mystique.

Keep up the good searching, intrepid readers!

About this blog
I'm hoping this little blog will become a place to capture all the random things I'm either studying, or thinking about, or planning for my hobby -- medieval history. I am a member of the SCA. My current mission is to absorb as much as I can about medieval history as possible. My current focus is fourteenth century England, and tenth century Hiberno-Norse culture (Ireland). And, if someone out there finds any of this useful, then hooray!
